Sunday September 13th – Llangorse Lake

Steve Day led a 9+ mile walk around this lake in Wales. There was some rain but it cleared before the end

Thursday 17th September – Tickenham

8 of us did a 5.5 mile walk in good weather. A steep climb up to Cadbury Camp. Great views over to Weston and Flatholme and Steepholme in the Bristol Channel.

Sunday 27th to Wednesday 30th September – Llandrindod Wells

For our group holiday 30 of us stayed at the Metropole hotel. Llandrindod was developed as a spa town in the 19 century . There are many Victorian and Edwardian style buildings in the town.

On Sunday we had a walk around the Lake and the Rock Spa garden, which was the site of the original spa. There was also a shorter walk around the town .

On the Monday the long walker went on a 11 mile walk past the lake and visiting the church above the town and then on to the abandoned ghost town of Cefnllys, where only the St Michaels church remains. There was a short walk around the lake and up to the town church.

On Tuesday we visited the Elan Valley where there are a chain of man made lakes which were made by damming of the rivers, Elan and Claerwen. This was undertaken in the 19 and 20th centuries to provide clean water for the city of Birmingham. The coach dropped both groups off at Rhayader . The long walkers group walked above the river Wye to its junction with the Elan river, where we crossed the river Elan via a very wobbly foot bridge. We followed the river to the Elan Valley visitors center where we met the short walk group who had walked up the disused railway line from Rhayader.

After lunch 6 of us climbed up to the Caban Coch dam behind the visitors center. Everyone else boarded the coach and went on a tour of the dams.
