Photo (thanks go to  Peter Bartlett) from Don & Pat Walter’s short  walk at Portishead on Thursday 28th January-shows a large ship full of aircraft parts (spot the logo on the side!) leaving Portbury Docks . The weather  was lovely ! See further information below about the Airbus ship which comes in  a message to Pat Walter from Eddy  Welch.

“With regard to what the Airbus ship was up to, as I have been retired for some time, I have consulted two sources.
1. At a monthly get together of former workmates.  2. I attended a lecture for retired engineers given by a Bristol Docks lady and I asked her the question.
The ship was sailing to Spain, for eventual delivery to Seville of  A400M wings. This is a 4 propeller engine military transport and the wings have carbon fibre material on the top and bottom wing surfaces.
Complete assembly of the planes was a possibility at Filton, however the planes are assembled in Seville and now the runway at Filton is closed and only sub assembly
parts are made and are transported elsewhere for final assembly. To see what the aircraft looks like assembled, google A400M. “
